About

About me:
I am an engineering professor at Drexel University and proud Haverford Township resident for over a decade. My husband and I live in Ardmore with our seven and five year old sons (second grader and kindergartner at Chestnutwold), three year old daughter, and eleven year old black lab mix.

Why I am running for Haverford Township Schoolboard:
I am running for school board in Haverford Township because I believe that quality public education is the foundation of the American Dream. I believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, to grow, and to be inspired through our public schools.

My qualifications:
Innovative science and engineering educator: I have received over a million dollars in educational grants to implement innovative teaching methods and enhance diversity in science and engineering education.
Practiced large project manager: I lead a research laboratory focused on cardiovascular disease. My work includes bringing in large research grants, managing a complex budget, and mentoring a diverse group of students to achieve their own career goals.
Collaborative leader: I listen to different points of view before speaking my opinion, connect people, ideas, and resources to create new opportunities, and build partnerships across traditional borders to get the job done effectively.

My vision for the Haverford Township School Board:
The school board should anticipate opportunities and challenges for our school district, efficiently manage our budget, and encourage open communication so that administrators, staff, teachers, and parents can focus on providing the best possible education for our children.

If elected to School Board, I will promote:
Educational innovation, in particular in science and engineering, so that our children will thrive in the increasingly technological society.
A school culture of inclusion, belonging, and growth, which is critical to student engagement, persistence, and academic outcomes.
Support for all students and families, including early interventions for at-risk students and high quality before- and after-care programs.

As an academic leader committed to science and engineering education, diversity, inclusion, and outreach, I am confident that my career, life experiences, and beliefs have prepared me to bring an innovative vision to the school board. I hope to earn your vote on November 7th!
